(let the gaaaaaaames begin!)
.. and hello to the future!
well it's a good thing theres such a thing called cross posting, but some times it's just getting too ridiculous!
dontcha think??
don't get me wrong, connecting with people is all and good, but when is too much, too much?
technology is talking up waaaaaaaaaaaay too much of our time to do the more important things in life, like living (then blogging about it, nyahaha)
Poised to win their second game of the season, UE had other tricks up their sleeve against the Maroons in OT thriller.
The stars were aligned like the first win. Pouring rain outside, exhaustively hot inside. NU courtside reporter / UP student Maan Panganiban and Bleachers Blue, este Brew writer Rick Olivarez weren't in attendance. Now even the lesser superstitious knew, UP was looking good coming into this game.
As were the conditions more than a week ago in the historic "Sunday Shocker" victory against the cross-avenue rivals.
Sadly, unable to defend with 9.4 seconds left in the game changed all of that.
After a slew of fouls by UE to put the Maroons on the line with a two point advantage, savvy newcomer Alvin Padilla headed to the line with extreme caution, and serious pressure.
Klank!
The first one missed. The nervousness of the UP faithful crawled its way around the VIP seats, in anticipation of the next free throw and of 'what to do next'.
Swish!
Euphoria...!
For 9.4 seconds.
UE Forward Val Acuna slipped past defenders to the corner to drain a dramatic baseline three with no time left on the clock to tie the game and force another five minutes of heart pounding action.
Half a second. That's all that UP needed to win this game. Half a second.
In the overtime period, UP's inability to hit shots in the clutch doomed them throughout as UE rose to the occasion going 4-6 from the floor, while UP could only connect 1-7 of their shots.
So close yet so far.
Heartbreaker.
First let me start off by saying I am *not* a Wowowee fan.
I detest the show and everything they do on it. From openly mocking contestants, pressuring and humiliating them with cold hard cash, and of course, exploiting scantly clad females (during lunch hour no less) in thy name of ratings.
the show is a flat out embarrassment to Philippine society and commercialism.
I will say this though: I agree 100% with Willie (i just threw up a little) that they shouldn't have simulcasted the live motorcade of Madam Cory.
Why? Because Willie is an entertainer. No matter how vulgar and how much bloggers and the social elite hate the guy for the reasons stated above, the masses love the prude.
It's been said that in serious times, make funny jokes; and in funny times, make serious jokes.
Madam Cory's death is an obvious serious time in our country's history, and it is his job as an entertainer to well, entertain us (the masses, at least) how can he do his job properly with the sights of a funeral motorcade on his screen?
Coverage of Madam Cory's motorcade was plastered all over TV for the past 48 hours, and deservingly so.
Now some people, for whatever reason, chose to watch wowowee instead of the Madam Cory coverage. It's sad, it's dramatic, it's historic, but sometimes in order to cope with these highly emotional events, people need to tune out.
.. And thats why they tuned in to wowowee. To get away from it all. To NOT see Madam Cory.
ABS-CBN is partly to blame for wanting it's cake and eating it too. You can't be funny (not that im saying i approve of wowowee style 'humor') and serious at the same time. You just cant.
As the old saying goes "the show must go on" and whoever decided to air the show while the motorcade was going on.. well please step forward.
To Willie: I agree that having the live coverage on wowowee was inappropriate and hindered you from doing your job. next time try to fix it off air, please. now the whole nation is up in arms against your so called 'disrespect'
to be honest I did not think you were disrespectful. I just never liked you anyway
To ABS-CBN - shame on you for wanting to have your cake and eat it too. sure Willie will get most of the heat, but you shouldn't be let off the hook.
To Everyone else - Don't let the Willie - Madam Cory Saga get in the way of whats really important here: A National Icon has past.
Why do people die? To give others a reason to live. Get off your ass and do something about it
as if we weren't lazy enough..
just figured out that you could click once to post in two different places! coolie.
now i have more time to do even more useless things on the internet! =D
Duh. The reason i havent been updating my multiply site. i shall return..!!
right in the thick of the UAAP basketball season, quick recap of the UP Maroons before we finish the 1st round.
*****************************
1st game: loss to National University - possibly the worst game the team could play. 37 turnovers in a 40 minute game??? crazy
2nd game: loss to Adamson University - the team played a little bit better but in the end, i have to admit, Adamson wanted it more
3rd game: loss to De La Salle University - another sloppy game. Coach Franz sure knows how to maximize his talents on the floor. Maroons due for a good game soon.
4th game: SUNDAY SHOCKER! win vs Ateneo de Manila University - whoa! only 14 turnovers (After averaging 30to's per game first 3 games) and shot a blistering 89% in the 4th.. wow wow wow!
5th game: loss to Far Eastern University - after a week in euphoria, whomped back down to earth with a tight loss to the tamaraws. the victory slipped through our fingers.. quite literally. end game execution needs massive improvement =O
current standings:
ateneo 5-1 FEU 4-1 lasalle 4-2 ust 3-2 ue 3-2 UP 1-4 adamson 1-5 NU 1-5
UST frustrates SSC, dominate championship clincher in straight sets -DumbGenius Boom! Boom! Boom! The band came to play. Squeak! Squeak! Squeak! So did the balloons. Click! Click! Click! The photographers, always in attendance. In a game where two evenly matched teams were expected to have a ferocious battle for the championship trophy, the game fell to a permeable route, as the University of Santo Tomas Lady Tigers obliterated the San Sebastian College Lady Stags in the deciding game. UST played so well that it looked like SSC didn’t even show up. The Lady Tigers’ offense was near perfect, Rhea Dimaculangan setting the tone. Their floor defense, peaking at just the right time. And their defense on the net was absolutely superb. Meanwhile, Baste was totally out of sync from the get-go. The usually lethal jump serves that Thai import Jeng Bualee normally gives out were replaced by mere basic serves. Whenever a player drastically changes their ways in a high stakes game like that, you know that they’re thinking too much and that’s a recipe for disaster. San Sebastian looked at each other so often in disbelief after every error that it was hard for them to get anything going. The ref needed to give them a warning (twice) for delaying the game while they were huddled together to talk things over. It’s not that they didn’t try; after those warnings they rallied five straight points. Unfortunately their old habit of overanalyzing the game had crept up to them yet again. On the other side of the net, the Lady Tigers were phenomenal. They were relaxed, loose, and happy and let the game come to them. Nothing forced, they set the tone early and frustrated SSC throughout the game. Regular season MVP Mary Jean Balse came to play, stepped up her game and finished with 18 big points. Team captain Aiza Maizo contributed 14 points to offset the quiet but solid play of guest player Michelle Carolino, who finished with just seven points. With UST up two sets to none and the score 21-17 in favor of the Lady Tigers, the Flying V Fil Oil Arena was simmering and ready to burst. Even the staff knew it. That when they ascended to the ceiling, walked closer and closer to the balloons placed up on the rafters well before the game started. Inching closer and closer, everyone in attendance knew it. Victory was theirs. With a monster spike through the block, Mary Jean Balse sealed the victory 25-22, three sets to none. And UST are champs once more. Congratulations to the Lady Tigers! Your Shakey's V-League 6th season 1st conference Champions, June 2009 Congratulations to Rhea Dimaculangan, Finals MVP, for her superb sets that made the lives of her teammates so much easier.
Championship jitters severely jolt mighty UST, Lady Stags cash in with Game 1 victory
- DumbGenius
UST had the edge; the swagger. They had beaten the Lady stags not once, but twice. What’s more, they could take comfort in knowing that they were the only team to beat San Sebastian this conference. Baste meanwhile, is facing a familiar opponent, on a familiar stage. In fact, volleyball fans have seen the same movie time and time again. UST vs SSC for the V-League Championship. These two teams would meet up for the 4th time in 5 finals. San Sebastian started on fire and rumbled early on to a technical timeout 8-2 lead. Regrouped and refocused, the Lady Tigers rallied behind a thunderous spike by Mary Jean Balse to have momentum on their side, and closed to within two points with the score at 16-14, in favor of the Lady Stags. San Sebastian continued their solid play and UST kept making unforgivable errors left and right as the Lady Stags closed the first frame 25-17. In the second set, it was evident that San Sebastian was able to force crafty veteran Michelle Carolino into being a non-factor. Carolino, the superb guest player from Letran, was held to single digits for the first time this season, an extremely untimely “off night”. To make matters worse, defensive ace Mika Ortiz suffered an injury midway through the second set and would sit out the rest of the game. Nothing went right for the Lady Tigers, and it clearly showed. Missed drop-shots, miscommunications on the defensive end; this was not the typical poise shown by championship teams. Fittingly, Sasa Devanadera sealed the 25-22 second set victory with a drop shot that left the Lady Tigers searching for answers, and the Lady Stags thrilled to be up two sets to none, despite only putting up a so-so / solid performance against the mighty UST team. With Baste up 2-0, expectations were not high. SSC is a team notorious for their inability to close out big games. Maybe it’s a mental thing, the lack of a “killer instinct”. UST on the other hand, is a team with an amazing ability to overcome insurmountable deficits. Everyone knew this, and everyone waited in anticipation for what was to come. San Sebastian had other plans. Baste started the third set with poise and a team with a sense of urgency. The Lady Stags gave enough of a reason for some fans to leave early: a jaw-dropping 22-10 third set lead over UST. As coach Shaq took a timeout to regroup his players, hordes of people started heading to the exit. Fans took timeout to let sink what was happening. Had Baste grown up? Have they finally fully developed that killer instinct that is required of champions? Where the hell did that come from?! In a game full of runs, it was UST’s turn. Led again by Mary Jean Balse, they racked up seven straight points to give SSC something to think about. The Lady Tigers always had trouble saying goodbye. Baste recovered enough to take a 24-19 lead, and with one more point to go, they went to their old reliable; Lucena’s pride and the reigning MVP Louann Latigay. She finished off the UST with a thunderous spike to lead her team to an unexpected straight set victory over the UST Lady Tigers. Not quite there, but a winner nonetheless. San Sebastian Lady Stags, a great team, played good enough to win. This time.
